Ravyn Lenae Masonic Jack White Theatre at the Masonic Temple Concert reviews
Tremendous Performance
My assessment has changed with the release of Dig In Deep earlier this year, considering the well documented success that Ravyn Lenae achieved in 1989 and 1991 with her two commercially successful albums, Nick of Time and Luck of the Draw after years of refining her craft might have been seen as the pinnacle of her career. The band is tight, the songs on the album are fresh, and Ravyn performs the range of blues, rockers, and ballads as she did "back in the day." It was like going back in time with a new set of songs as our soundtrack. She and the band showed great energy on Gypsy, All Alone, Unintended Consequences, etc. With the cover of the INXS song, she opened the concert with Need You Tonight, signaling that this concert would not be a celebration of the oldies, rather a cool mix of old favorites (Runaway, Something to Talk About, Love Letter) with new songs on Dig In Deep. Ravyn looks and sounds great. A truly memorable evening! She could still easily do the raspy, bluesy songs that she is known for, but also the ballads and sweet standards. The TWO HOURS seemed to fly by.
